The automatic pool cleaner has been around for decades. There are so many cleaners today that fall under
the automatic pool cleaner category. There are different types, makes, brands,
and models. Below we are going to give you some general information regarding suction, pressure, and robotic types cleaners.
The
first type of automatic pool cleaner I would like to go over is the
suction cleaner. Suction cleaners mean just that, they work off of the
suction of your pool pump. This type of cleaner works very well in most
applications. It will literally suck up debris in it's path and it goes
right to the filtration system in your pool. This is often an advantage
over some other types as even the fine dirt will be sucked up held by
the filter. You will also notice with a suction cleaner that
the flow in your pool system needs to be sufficient. If your system
struggles with good flow, the suction cleaner may not be the best unit
for your application. Most pool these days are constructed with a
dedicated suction line for the cleaner but your pool skimmer will work
as well. The dedicated suction line is best but always be certain to
use a safety vacuum lock devise that will keep the line safe in the
event the cleaner is unplugged by a child. The next type of
automatic pool cleaner would be the pressure cleaner. Pressure style
pool cleaners operate on water pressure. This type of cleaner usually
has a dedicated pump of it's own. You will usually see a small,
vertical style pump that will pull water from the pool and direct back
to the pool where your automatic pool cleaner plugs in. Some of the
most expensive pool cleaners do operate on pressure. There is usually a
standard and a fine mesh bag that the units use to catch the debris. The
last type of automatic pool cleaner is the Robotic pool cleaners.
Robotic pool cleaners tend to be the most expensive cleaners out there.
I believe most of them use a 12-volt supply. This type of unit seems to
be used on the pool with the most debris. When buying any of these
units we suggest sticking with well-known name brands, makes and
models. There are some very low budget automatic pool cleaners on the
market and I suppose you don't have much to lose with some of the
cheaper models but some of them can run into the thousands so do your
research and good luck!
