Adding chlorine to swimming pools is the traditional and
most widely accepted method of keeping them clean and controlling bacteria. It
acts like a sanitizing agent, helps control algae and is also an oxidizer. The
dilemma comes in deciding how to dispense the chlorine into your water. The use
of a pool chlorinator is an easy and efficient solution.
A pool chlorinator slowly releases the chemical into the
water over time. This prevents you from handling the chlorine every time you
need to add it to the water.
Chlorine is a caustic chemical that can be dangerous therefore the less
it is handled the better. We
recommend one of two types of pool chlorinators. The choice should be based on
your individual set up.
- In-line - An in-line pool chlorinator is installed in the PVC line of the existing
equipment after the heater, if one is present. This provides a steady
stream of the chemical in a safe and clean manner. You can adjust the
amount being dispensed based on your water tests. Tablets or sticks are
added to the chamber as needed.
- Off-line - An off-line system is called for when it is too difficult or not
feasible to install an in-line one. It is usually placed near your other
pool equipment and can be secured to the ground. A hose is run to the
water to dispense the product. This type of system uses the same tables or
sticks and has the same benefits of an in-line system
